Light Discipline - Funny Tactical Santa Veteran Shirt
No flashlights, no cigarettes, no phone screens, no watch face lighting up the far ridgeline at 0300. Every patrol briefed light discipline, and every patrol had the one guy who forgot. Santa's team runs the same SOP on the one night that counts: every chimney on the planet, zero compromises. The lead had a known light signature, so it was taped before step-off. It is the Christmas gift for the infantry or night-ops vet who still kills the porch light before he walks outside, from the spouse who turns it back on. After-action note: no lights observed.
THE DEBRIEF
A linocut sleigh team in patrol file: the lead reindeer out front and bigger than the rest, his nose taped over in an X, three reindeer behind him, Santa at the reins with his sack. Every one wears NODs, tubes down. Under them, LIGHT DISCIPLINE in heavy worn block capitals, all inside a ring of stars.

QUESTIONS FROM THE BACK
What does light discipline mean?
Controlling every light you show at night, from flashlights and vehicle lights to cigarettes, watch faces and phone screens, so nobody can spot your position. Units brief it before night moves and cover or filter the lights they must use. Under night vision the rule gets stricter, because a small glow looks like a beacon through the tubes, and the lead reindeer's nose was never going to pass inspection.
Why do reindeer eyes turn blue in winter?
The reflective layer at the back of a reindeer's eye, the tapetum lucidum, shifts from gold in summer to deep blue in winter. A 2013 study by researchers in Norway and at University College London found the change scatters more light onto the retina, which helps through months of Arctic dark. Reindeer can see ultraviolet light as well. The team got issued NODs anyway, because the packing list is the packing list.
What does NODs mean in the military?
NODs stands for night observation devices: the night vision a unit wears on helmets or head mounts to move and work in the dark. The tubes amplify what little light there is, so one careless flashlight looks like a stadium through them. On a properly run night move every set is down and every light is off, nose included.
